Music Program Committee Chair

The Music Program Committee supports the development and maintenance of an excellent and vibrant music program at QUUF. The Music Program Committee works closely with the choir director to support the music program of the Fellowship. The committee helps to schedule pianists, soloists and instrumentalists for the year, fostering music as part of our worship services. The chairperson guides the committee in its deliberations and decisions. 

Detailed Description: 
Music Program Committee Chair facilitates monthly committee meetings, sets agenda, and notifies committee members of up-coming meetings and special musical events. The chair prepares an annual budget and provides advice for the choir director’s annual review. The Music Program Committee may also organize special concerts or other musical events. Other duties include attending the Leadership Assembly’s quarterly meetings and preparing the annual report of the committee's activities during the preceding year. Time required varies, but the best estimate is 6-8 hours a month.

Music is a favorite part of the Sunday Service, one that has the power to touch people deeply in a way that words cannot. Out music program enriches the life of the Fellowship and provides an opportunity for people who are moved tom sing and/or play an instrument to offer these gifts. A chairperson who loves music will find this opportunity deeply fulfilling. In addition, Music Program Chair enjoys the fellowship of working closely with the minister, the choir director, and musicians. As with any leadership position, chairing this committee brings the reward of collegial relations with other leaders and a deeper understanding of the Fellowship.

Skills Needed: 

The chair should be able to lead a discussion; have organizational skills; be good at interpersonal relation able to delegate.  Please note: While a love of music may make the position more compelling, it is not a requirement.

Music Program Committee Member

Detailed Description: 
* The committee meets for one and one-half hours per month. * Plans music for scheduled absences of the choir director and oversees implementation of the mutual plan. * Oversees the music program library and inventory. Pulls music from the files for practices and performances and refiles music after use. * Works for compliance with the copyright laws. * Plans, manages and publicizes special musical events. * Develops an annual budget for the Music Program. * Schedules pianists, soloists and instrumentalists for the summer worship services. * Assures period maintenance and tuning of the Fellowship's pianos. * Provides advice regarding the annual performance review of the music staff. * Prepares an end-of-the-year report for the Board and he annual congregational meeting.

Animal Action Group Member

QAA members advocate for the health and well being of all sentient creatures and their habitats.  

Detailed Description: 
QAA members advocate for the health and well being of all sentient creatures and their habitats. QAA endeavors to address the issues of the extinction crisis, climate crisis and animal cruelty. We believe in and actively support the inherent worth and dignity of all individual beings. This group is for anyone who wants to deepen understanding of other species, their habitats as well as support each other in our efforts and relationship to the greater-than-human world.
Service Term:

Benefits for the Volunteer and the Congregation: 

QUUAM members provide a service to QUUF congregation in education and raising awareness about all species and the environment, thereby helping to change the social and world dynamics of human relationships that are helping or harming our planet. We deepen our relationships with each other in this action group as well as by working with other QUUF members and friends, and the greater community.

Skills Needed: 

The main skill needed is the love of other species and each other. In our Action Group Covenant we emphasize openness and loving communication - “We believe the shifting paradigm from human dominance to a reverence for all life is key to healing the world. Growing our skills and capacity for compassionate communication, we will act in ways that nourish one another and support our multi-species communities.” Other skills are WELCOMED and appreciated and can be utilized - we are a new and growing group needing the multi-skilled diversity of many members.

Training, assistance, and safety requirements: 

No training or requirements. If one goes on a field trip or volunteers as part of this group, the obvious “at your own risk”  applies.

Choir member

A choir member performs a vital service to enhance the beauty of Sunday Services by singing in the QUUF choir. 

Detailed Description: 
The choir is a welcoming, supportive, and fun group to be a part of. No auditions, previous choral experience, or ability to read music is necessary. This a teaching choir; and we offer a lot of support through midi files and part work during rehearsal. The choir performs at both services two times a month from September through June. Choir members leave after the second performance, before the sermon. We have fun learning our parts at Wednesday evening rehearsals beginning in mid-August.

Benefits for the Volunteer and the Congregation: 

Music communicates on an emotional level deeper than words.  Joining others in making music with your voice is a satisfying way to express your spirituality as a member of a caring and supportive group.  The gift you give to the congregation is an enhancement of their experience in the Sunday service, deepening their spirituality.  You express your love of music and share your gift with the congregation. 

Skills Needed: 

An ability to match pitches is helpful but pitch-matching is a largely acquired skill. An ability to read music is also an advantage but not required.

Training, assistance, and safety requirements: 

Participating in our teaching rehearsals helps build skills in how to produce a good tone, develop a musician’s ear, and learn to harmonize with others. Participating in the services encourages intrepidity and courage to overcome stage fright, nervousness, and timidity. Rehearsal files are available to access on your computer to practice your part at home.
