While the Sunday Morning Greeters’ main purpose is to make our Visitors feel both welcome and comfortable, their presence in the foyer before services also enhances a general sense of welcome among all Members and Friends.
Being a Greeter is a great way to serve QUUF. You give a little time yet provide an important service and benefit by getting better acquainted with members and friends. Stationed in the foyer before services, greeters have a welcoming presence and often help by answering questions, directing people here and there, etc. (No greeter is expected to have all the answers!) Experienced greeters can attest that we learn lots while engaging with visitors.
Greeters enjoy people, are good listeners, arrive on time, and are comfortable enough with themselves that the occasional not being able to help someone doesn't cause you discomfort. The foyer is a busy place and there is always someone who can help a greeter when needed.
New greeters have an individual training session with an experienced greeter that includes a discussion about specific tasks greeter and a walk through the routine for a Sunday morning. New greeters are matched with experienced greeters for their first several experiences on the job. Each greeter gets a copy of the Greeter Actitivites instructions.
